Launched by Pat Coyle in late December, Smaller Indiana is a young but thriving online community making offline connections. The site—which has quickly grown to 555 members—was inspired by a book called “Nexus, Small Worlds and the Groundbreaking Theory of Networks,..” by Mark Buchanan, who wrote:
“On a crowded street of any major city, there can be no more than a few links separating any two individuals — we are all that close. What is surprising, in fact, is how infrequently we notice the small world, and how often we believe that most others are indeed a long way away.”
The biggest distinction from other social networks, like MySpace, Facebook and LinkedIn, is that Smaller Indiana is local.
Smaller Indiana makes creative people and innovative ideas easier to find. The forum and blog discussions have ranged from community building to discussions about whether Indiana should try to be like Silicon Valley. This is the place for you to share your ideas and engage with Indiana’s most creative and inspired souls, working together to build community, culture and commerce.

Smaller Indiana is here to support innovative and creative efforts however we can. We think social networks like ours can enhnance the community, culture and economic development efforts of our entire region. Good luck with the startup!
