Nothing official yet (read: no checks in hand), but it looks like we have four of our target six sponsors identified after a little local media blitz in the last two days. Smaller Indiana, a Ning group aimed at strengthening connections between Indiana professionals, started collecting donations via paypal last week. The City of Bloomington, Indiana University School of Informatics, and Mallor Clendening Grodner and Bohrer LLP (a local law firm) have also expressed interest within the past day. Suso.org had volunteered some technology support late last month, as well. One thing is certain: this event will be funded.
The registrations are going a bit slower than expected, but we will quickly credit that to the timing of the announcements, student budgets and the fact that the event is still three weeks away. I have personally been in contact with more than a dozen people who do plan to attend but who haven’t made it official yet. We also are looking into providing some childcare for others who are hesitating because of family responsibilities. Local media will begin covering this event toward the middle of next week, so we still expect to be full and funded by January 25th.
